The Toad Queen

Daisy and Violet lived with their mother in San Francisco.

Daisy was six. She was a good girl. She always listened to her mom.

Violet was nine. She was lazy and mean. She never listened to her mom.

One day, Mom asked the girls to go buy some milk. The store was right next to their apartment building.

“Of course,” said Daisy.

“I am not going,” said Violet.

“Violet, please help your sister,” mom asked. “I will give you a lollipop if you do.”

“I want two lollipops,” Violet said. She snatched the candy from her mom’s hand.

The two sisters left for the store.
