Sofia's Flower

It’s a beautiful morning. Flowers are blooming in the garden.

A silver-haired fairy plays a song on a flute. Other fairies hang special decorations.

Sofia peeks out from inside of her mother’s tulip home. Glitter falls from the fairies flying above. Fairy dust lands on Sofia’s nose. She smiles.

It’s a great day to have a birthday.

“Happy birthday, dear,” says Sofia’s mother. Today is the day Sofia gets to choose a flower of her own.

Her mother hopes she chooses a tulip. Then Sofia will always be close to home.

Her mother worries about Sofia. You see, Sofia is different from all the other fairies. She was born without wings.

Sofia is a fairy who can’t fly.

When she was young, she would cry herself to sleep every night. But now, she knows it is just part of who she is.
