Too Many Hiding Places

Fox and Cat ran along the stream, jumping over logs and pushing through the grass.

Deer's voice called out from the meadow: “Ninety-eight... Ninety-nine... One Hundred!”

Just then a butterfly landed on Fox’s nose. He fell to the ground, laughing. “Shhhhh,” Cat said to Fox. “We have to hide!”

Fox was not worried about being found. “Bear is too big to hide, and Turtle is too slow,” he said to Cat. “One of us will win hide-and-seek.”

Fox looked for a place to hide. He could hide near the tree, the stream, or the sheep.

Fox said, “There are lots of places to hide!”

Cat ran up the tree. She disappeared behind a thick branch covered with leaves.

“This spot looks good to me,” Cat said. “Deer will never find me up here. Are you coming, Fox?”
